Visit Lisbon in August

Every year when we hit August Lisbon has less traffic and less people, this is the favourite month for locals to go on holidays and the city stays quite empty. If you hate crowded places, this IS the month to tour Lisbon. We can actually say that is low season in Lisbon just in the peak of the Summer.

In addition to that much appreciated detail, you can also count with free entertainment from Jazz on Thursdays nights at CCB in Belem area to the overwhelming options that Oceans Festival brings in, take a look at what you can see and do for free:

6th and 7th August
10pm – Full Circle – at Praça do Comércio, Lisbon downtown
Live music, fire, fireworks and special effects to tell a story of change, taking you on a journey through the seasons

8th August
10pm – Fado performance by Maria do Ceo (at Praça Municipio near Lisbon City Hall)

9th August
10pm – Fado performance by Helder Moutinho (at Praça Municipio near Lisbon City Hall)

10th and 11th August
10pm – Street Theatre : Theatron – at Parque das Nações
An incredible performance displayed vertically, along a “wall” made with scaffolding.
Theatron uses technological, multimedia and fireworks equipment, just as easily as it “invents” scenario machines and a whole “sustainable” and “recovered” scenography, thus creating environments that can be “beautiful and pacifying” but suddenly revert to chaotic and disturbing.

12th August
6pm – Museums by night
10pm – Fado performance by Raquel Tavares (at Praça Municipio near Lisbon City Hall)

13th August
10pm – Fado performance by Kátia Guerreiro (at Praça Municipio near Lisbon City Hall)
10pm – Street Theatre : Pi-leau – at Parque das Nações
Is street theatre that literally moves the audience. Actors and mobile objects move through and with the crowd. Like the sea people find their way around the emerging obstacles. A unique experience!

For the complete program see Oceans Festival Lisbon 2010.

During the day you can just stroll around and visit the historic neighborhoods of Belem, Bairro Alto, Chiado and Castelo, appreciating the views and gardens. These wonderful Lisbon photos will make you fall in Love with our city.

When passing by Chiado don’t forget to stop by the new Ice Cream store Santini and enjoy one of the best Ice Creams in Lisbon.

Are you ready to pack? We are for sure ready to welcome you at Hotel York House. For this season our rooms are starting at €80/per night maybe this is another good reason to Visit Lisbon in August.
